Full Version: Two newbie Questions

I am just beginning to use CClearner and have two questions. First, under the issues tab, a number of unrecognized extensions are listed. If I tell CCleaner to clean them, does it remove the files or just clean up something in the registry? I know one extension is a backup file for WordPerfect and I don't mind if they are removed (in fact, I do so each month), but some of the others I don't recognize and want to be sure I am not going to mess up a program.

Secondly, using tools, I show a number of Windows XP Hotfile programs and a number of Windows XP update files. I *assume* these have updated Windows and it would be safe to uninstall them, but before I do so, can someone confirm my assumption?

Thanks for your help.

Issues section clean almost only registry entries, as you can
see under categories at the left side "Registry Integrity".
Plus a couple of entries related to "File Integrity"
(Start Menu Shortcuts and Desktop Shortcuts)

Of course CCleaner doesn't delete the WindowsUpdates, but only Hotfix Uninstallers.
Deleting them, will be impossibile uninstall the WindowsUpdates, if needed.

Correct, it will remove the registry entry for the unused filetype and NOT touch any files with the extention.

You should not uninstall hofixes or Windows updates using 'tools' as that would remove the windows update (un-update windows!) not remove the downloaded installer.

If you wish to clean out the installers click 'CCleaner' go down to 'Advanced' and put a check next to 'Hotfix Uninstallers' please NOTE: You will NOT be able to uninstall those windows updates at a future date.
