I just got into firefox. One of my biggest problems was the way it streamed video. With this extension (click link) firefox actually opens the desired program (WMP, Quicktime ,ect.) and loads the video supper fast, may I dare say even faster than IE.

Foxy Tunes is another must have. I dont like the default skin, but you can download nicer ones on the same website.

My favourite is Revolutions Lite which you can check out here, among others.

Make sure you get bookmarks backup before anything else.Spellbound & Adblock are must haves while tab mix is pretty freaking awsome.

I thought the Yahoo! Toolbar could only be used in IE?
Also does tweak network settings speed up your browsing? What is Chromedit?

I found tweak network settings and wow it made firefox fast. I just set the settings to power. Have you configured it to get anymore speed? If yes please post your settings.

If you view my site, you'll see ChromEdit is an add on that will allow you to copy/paste settings, then restart Firefox and BOOM, enjoy the speed.

Tarun I went to your site and downloaded Chromedit. Then I cut the list of tweaks and pasted them to user.js. Is this all that is required?
rridgely
Also can you use the about config tweaks at the same time as chromedit or is it the same thing?

ChromEdit adds a menu option under Tools, enter it into user.js from there.

Same thing, ChromEdit makes it easier.

Thanks for all the help Tarun. I have one last question since I now have tweaked firefox, should I still use the tweak network settings extension to get more speed? Or can this cause problems. Also now that I am using firefox is microsoft antispyware needed. I read on thier website that it only protects while using IE.

Can extentions slow down page rendering?

I know it might slow down the intial Firefox start up, but can it effect page rendering?
rridgely
I tried out the extension foxy tunes. This would be great for people using windows 98 or ME, but this is pretty dumb to use with xp because you can just shrink WMP to task bar mode.
nod32
Not everyone uses WMP
rridgely
Yeah but I also use Quintissential player and it has the same function. Foxytunes just made firefox load slower.

Oh try quintissential player its awesome.

Truthfully I find Yahoo Toolbar for Firefox to be redundant. You already have a search engine bar and you can add tons to it. Mine has Google, Wikipedia, Dictionary.com and the Urban Dictionary. Firefox already prevents a lot of malware, and I don't trust any add on toolbars at all. I mean seriously. What is the point of having them? Especially with Firefox.

ok... then i wont get it... i dont really like yahoo anyway...

I tried the yahoo toolbar and it was terrible. I put it on my navigation toolbar (the littly Y! logo thing not the whole toolbar) and not only could I not get it to go away but it didnt even work. So stay away from this untill its out of Beta.
Tarun
Anything Yahoo is terrible.
rridgely
Found this on download.com. Didnt use it since I have Chromedit. Not sure if it works but it says it tweaks firefox automatically. Its called FireTune.

I honestly prefer ChromEdit, cause I know what it's doing. Whereas that you have no idea about.
nod32
I've tried it before. Does the basic network.http. stuff in about:conifg. Its not very effective either. Tweaking in FF is best done manually.
