I recently inquired to mssupport.microsoft.com about how to uninstall .Net Framework. This removal tool they suggested works really nicely. Just follow the simple steps below and you'll be rid of .Net Framework.


1. Please download the Cleanup_tool from the link below and unzip it to the desktop and you will get a file Cleanup_tool.exe

2. Please close all the open windows. Double click Cleanup_tool.exe to run it, and then click "OK" -> click "Yes" -> Click "Cleanup Now" to remove it completely.

Topical post for me, as I've just got rid of .net framework 3.0, which I only installed last week.

I seem to have removed it OK with Add/Remove programmes, but the tool may have been a more efficient option.

It all started when I was doing my routine windows update, and a security update for Net Frameworks appeared, and for some reason it wouldn't install. So, I contacted Microsoft about it and eventually installed the update via their download links they sent me. Then in the interest of saving some RAM, I inquired again about the best way of unstalling Net Frameworks all together, because I wasn't sure if all the components were in my Add/Remove programs list. I had no use for it and wanted it off my PC. Anyway, the tool they sent worked just fine, and now I have a little more RAM.
I've been reading about people having trouble removing Net Frameworks correctly, it seems if not done just right, it will cause all sorts of problems.

what is the purpose of .net framework and why does microsoft add all of these programs that nobody needs?

NET Framework contains a new generation common language runtime and class libraries to support the latest development tools such as Visual Studio 2005. It is only necessary for a programmer or developer.

Microsoft didn't add Net Frameworks to my updates, I was browsing some of the 'optional' windows updates and downloaded it then thinking it was something I needed.

The Net Frameworks 'security' update kept showing up in my Recommended Critical Updates because Windows Update recognized that I had Net Frameworks, and it was showing me the security update that I needed for it. Now it no longer shows up in the updates.

Some software does use the .net framework though. One being the excellent paint.net:

I just always install the updates so I dont have to worry about some program needing it later.

Yeah, I'm sure there are other software that requires Net Framework. It's just not useful to me yet. I haven't had a need for it as to date. If something comes up in the future that needs net framework I'll reinstall it again.

Right now I use Microsoft Paint that came with the windows xp package. It seems to do everything I want it to do, which is mostly resizing and changing picture formats from jpg to bmp..ect

The best resizing tool I've seen, (if you don't already know about it), and use all the time, is Image Resizer, an ms powertoy.

Integrates with windows explorer, and I've found it really useful.

I just checked it out, it looks like it does about everything imaginable. I like the fact that it Integrates with windows explorer. I may give that a try sometime.

Besides microsoft paint, I've also been using Photo Resizer program by Showyourphotos. It's a small easy to use little program that works really well, at the link below:
