every time I run CCleaner, all the contents of all the Outlook Express mailboxes are deleted. How do I switch this off?

There are no settings in CCleaner to delete emails.

Have you chosen any custom files and folders to delete?

Is this using just the cleaner or the 'issues' registry cleaner?

What is your operating system and build of CCleaner?

The problem occurs when I clean the registry.
None of the files shown on the screen is referring to Outlook Express File path

Are you able to restore the registry from the backup and get your emails back?

Where in CCleaner do I find the option to restore a back-up?
hazelnut
If it asked you did you want to make a backup of the issues clean and you said yes, they are put by default in my documents.

Looks like a white sheet of paper with blue blocks on (a .reg file)

Right click on it and chose merge, choose the latest one first if you have lots. Todays for instance would read cc_20080120

The e-mails are not coming back after restoring the back-up to the registry

First do a start> search for .dbx files and see if they are still on your computer.

If they are, try this free program to get them back.

Outlook Express ( OE ) is notoriously fussy about its dbx files and corruption can occur if it is compacting the Folders and you switch away from OE.

It is best to compact the Folders yourself occasionally.

These are some OE tools that I use:
OETool http://www.oehelp.com/OETool/Default.aspx
OEBackup http://www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/Default.aspx

Also move emails you want to keep out of the default Folders ( Inbox, Sent and Drafts ) and empty the Deleted Items Folder frequently.

I had this same problem. I downloaded the dbxviewer and my emails are not in the inbox any more. More email has come and taken its place i guess. Are these files just lost forever. I mean I probably had 3000 or more emails and I didn't want all of them, but I did want some of them. I haven't tried to restore the files because the last person said that didn't help.
