hi guys. went to defrag my external hard drives and the ntfs drives defragged no problem, but the fat32 drives said that a chk disk had to run on reboot first. i rebooted, but it didnt chk disk.

any ideas how i go about "chk disk" ing so that i can do my defrag? thanks guys. smile.gif

may be put in chk dsk not right it CHKDSK like this if drive is h ' chkdsk h: /f ' then press enter if just a check & not fix > like this ' chkdsk h: ' rolleyes.gif

If it helps, open up a command prompt and type CHKDSK /? and it will bring the switches available to use with the CHKDSK feature.

I've attached a screen print to make it easier.

Or maybe right click the drive - properties - tools - check now and select both options.

If the drive is inactive it may run there and then without requiring a reboot.

For some odd reason sometimes trying to run chkdsk /f c: may not work.
Therefore you can substitute it with this: FSUTIL DIRTY SET C:

Of course change the drive letter on the end to match the drive you wish to error check.
