i recently downloaded avg anti-spyware and when i ran a scan it said i have
not-a-virus.adware.agent
not-a-virus.adware.vapsup
downloader.agent.auv
downloader.agent.hym
along with some tracking cookies
it wouldnt let me quarantine the not-a-virus's or the downloader agent's.
i turned off system restore and they didnt show up on the scan but two of the cookies were still there even though it said they were deleted.
the cookies were trackingcookie.2o7 and trackingcookie.revsci
i just ran a scan adn those ones didnt show up but trackingcookie.pointroll is there
im thinking i have a worm or something that has copied itself or embedded itself deep into my system somehow. or maybe the notavirus and downloaderagent arent really gone?

Hello chongpizzle,
Don't know why you are having problems with AVG.Maybe a Learning curve thing.
Make sure you check for AVG updates until you get a message saying you have the latest updates installed.
First thing is run CCleaner to clean out cookies and Temporary Internet Files.
Then run a scan again I think you will find everything gone.
You can also get AVG Anti-Root Kit here. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/39798/us/frt/0 It found one for me first time I used it.
I find AVG to be very easy on my 256 MB Ram and it has found and removed some trojans for me.

I would also install Spyware Blaster and it will keep out alot of those pesky ad-ware cookies without using up any CPU at all. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com./

Now you will have good basic protection along with your Windows Firewall.

SECURITY ADVICE
As security programs get better and better, malware programs get more and more devious.
As far as security goes I recommend you use this link.Bookmark it and Add to Favorites.

I use Windows Firewall,AVG Free Edition and Spyware Blaster. They or their equivalent should be installed and active on every PC.They offer the best basic protection with minimal required attention and system resources.
These are the only things I allow to automatically udate. All other products I manually update.
Like the average PC user,I believe in keeping things simple.
I do have other security software installed and I use them on an as desired basis.
It is best to have them installed before you get infected.
Malware sometimes prevents anti-malware programs from being installed when you need it most.
Good Luck,
