I have a mysterious folder on my XP-Pro desktop labelled "CC". It's empty. When/if I delete this folder, it reappears upon the next reboot. Is CCleaner putting this folder on my desktop? What's it for? I'd just as soon keep my desktop clear as much as possible. If CCleaner IS indeed putting this folder on my desktop, is there some setting so I can tell CCleaner to put it somewhere else instead? I've looked all through the options and can't find anything. I've looked through the Help file and can't find anything. I've also tried searching this forum but it won't let me search with the word CC, as in CC folder, because there aren't enough letters in CC!

First can I ask you where you downloaded CCleaner from?

Do you also have a CCleaner icon on your desktop from which you can run the program ?

If you right-click on the folder and choose properties, was the folder made at the same time you installed CCleaner?

Are all your virus scans okay?

XP or vista?

Maybe someone is playing a joke on you ? Maybe not intentionally.
Do a Windows "search" for all files and folders CC case sensitive.
Navigate here and see if that folder is there. If so delete it,then delete it from your Recycle Bin.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

If not there, check the other users desktops also.

It's funny how I try to include info in my original mail but no one reads it!

It's on an XP-Pro machine. I'm logged in as an administrator. I have up-to-date AVG, Spy-Bot S&D, and Ad-aware running nightly.

The folder is recreated anytime I delete it then reboot. The creation date always is the date I reboot.

I downloaded CCleaner from the link on this site --> www.CCleaner.com

There is no CCleaner shortcut icon on my desktop because I unchecked that option during the installation -- I want to keep my desktop clear as much as possible. I didn't even allow CCleaner to be added to context menus.

I just want to know if CCleaner usually puts a new CC folder on the desktop as part of its normal operation. Perhaps it creates such a folder to keep "suspected crap"?

No it doesn't. That is my two cents.

Cleaner does not create a folder to put 'supected crap' in. the only thing that gets created is a registry backup for an 'issues' clean but you are asked if you want to create that, and it is a .reg file not a folder.

Try making a little text file and putting it inside it and then deleting it

Try emptying the recycle bin after you delete it.

Try going into safe mode and deleting it, then reboot.

Try Unlocker, right-click on the folder select unlocker

OK! I figured out what it was! It wasn't CCleaner, of course. I decided to bite the bullet and search through my registry for any/all instances of

\Desktop\CC

assuming that possibly some program is referencing a folder named "CC" on my desktop, and if the folder isn't there said program would then add it. Scanned through my registry (using the Find... command) and consistently saw that Windows Media Player was trying to use this folder.

Aha!!

So, I closed the registry and opened WMP. Guess what?? As soon as WMP opened up the CC folder magically appeared again all on its own. I looked at WMP's settings and lo-and-behold, at some point I must have created a desktop folder to hold ripped songs. I don't recall doing so, but I must have (and no one else uses this computer). Anyway, in WMP's Tools/Options/Rip Music tab, at the top, was a reference to "Rip music to this location" and there was the path with the "...\Desktop\CC" in it! So, I hit the "Browse" button to point to "My Music" folder instead. Voila! No more CC folder on the desktop upon reboot and relaunch of WMP!

Whew!! I'm glad that's over -- I was going nuts, hoping I didn't have some new virus or something.
