Hey guys it's been a while since i've been on this forum because i haven't had any problems!

until i bought this new laptop (compaq presario c700). it works like a whiz but there are just a few odd things happening that are negligible but here goes.

1) My antivirus no longer loads up automatically on startup. I wait a good few minutes to find i have to manually load it up. On msconfig the actual entry for my antivirus is actually missing so i can't enable it there.

2) My wireless network is working perfectly however my HP wireless assistant says my wlan is disabled and i can't enable it on device manager because it's not there. Also my wireless light on my laptop is giving an orange light instead of a blue light (my gf has exactly the same laptop and it goes blue for her :-( so know blue means it working)

Ok, first I have a couple of quick questions for you.


Does this issue have to do with the networking problems you were having back in april in this topic?

My second question is this: Did you follow and complete the required steps in this topic? If the answer to that question is yes, do you still have the reports from Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and the F-Secure Online Scanner?

In answer to your first question no it's not. That was my other laptop which i still haven't entirely solved. It's hell because I really want to go back to my old belkin router where we had no problems whatsoever.

Anyway yes i did follow those steps although i didnt think it was a spyware problem. amateur mistake.

Also i thought it'd be worth adding that when i startup the laptop it comes up with an error:

"Error communicating with Kernel"

also. Is there anything u can do about the whole HP WLAN being disabled even though i can connect online etc?

Do you see the name of the program giving this error when the message pops up on your screen?


I'm not real big on the networking aspect of issues on a PC; you're probably better off asking for additional help in the topic you already have going here.

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder

• Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
• Accept any prompts.
• Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
• Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.

Please post back with a new HijackThis log.

Okay well it's to do with the ESET NOD antivirus (the kernel communication error). So thats obviously a problem there.

If NOD32 is giving you errors on startup, it might be easiest just trying to uninstall/reinstall the antivirus software, and see if that fixes the issue.


Well, you could probably go either way with it. It's really up to you whether or not to create another topic for this laptop or not.

Thanks a bunch I think that has sorted it out. Although now i have some other form of spyware it's this horrible antispyware 2008 xp program which is obviously spyware.

i can't upload a hijack this log as it's crashing my notepad program so i'm virtually stuck. I can't google instructions cos it's interrupting connections. any way i can get round this because most links are inaccessible.

Do you still have Malwarware' Anti-Malware installed from earlier on in this topic? This tool should be able to remove most of that infection, or at least get us to the point where we can have more options available for use.
If you don't still have it installed, please follow through with these instructions:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

• Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
• Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.

Thanks yes unfortunately i had uninstalled it thinking my antivirus has antispyware to cover it...big mistake.

Anyway I was glad i'd put my laptop shared documents up on my wireless network as i downloaded the install from my old laptop whilst also downloading spyware doctor (which i've uninstalled as MBAM seems to be sufficient) and work from there and have everything clean.

What i think it was, was the dodgy eset nod32 reinstall i used. So now i've reverted back to good 'ol AVG free. I'm keeping MBAM but are there any other safety precautions i should take in the future.

There are still a few suggestions you can use, some you might already have in effect, but I'll list them anyway.

* Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.

* To reduce re-infection for malware in the future, I strongly recommend installing these free programs:

SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX
IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all
Have a look at this tutorial for IE-Spyad here

* SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts. Make sure you are only running one real-time anti-spyware protection program or there will be a conflict.

Make Internet Explorer more secure

• Click Start > Run
• Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
• Click on the Security tab
• Click Reset all zones to default level
• Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
• In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
• Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

* MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.

* Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more
secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in pop up
blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from
