Full Version: PART 2 of HELP PLEASE! I think I found malware, AND I have 2 'damaged' Active

Hi Everyone!

I posted a week or so ago about the problems I was having, and that I had found 2 "damaged" ActiveX controls while I was
trying to find out why none of my Games were able to work. I think I mentioned all the error messages I was getting relating to shockwave; flash; game launcher; and DRM Keyhole Application; as well as Macromedia Projector "NOT WORKING".....these problems kept my games from opening so I could play them.

I spent the time since my post reading the suggestions about removing all Java; Flash; Shockwave and Macromedia.... then rebooting....deleting programs and apps I don't use.....then downloading and installing several GREAT 'clean-up aids', (e.g. CClean, SUPERAntiSpyware, and the BEST defragger I've ever used (in my short 6 years or so of experience), Piriform's own "DEFRAGGLER"!! I'll praise it more in that forum, but it's the GREATEST!!

Anyway, I think I've done all the required steps and I've completed a "HiJackThis", although I got a message that said I had to right-click on HJT and "Run it as Administrator" and send it to Notepad. (I use a program from Stardock called "Object Edit" that does the same thing)....so I have the results ready to submit for one of the pros on these wonderful forums!

I was so relieved that HiJackThis submissions are being accepted once again! You don't know how hopeful I am that I'll FINALLY be able to play my games again, once I get rid of the 2 'damaged' ActiveX controls and related items that were downloaded on the same day (March 24, 2008) that I got my first error message!! I smell a rat in that tangled mess somewhere.....that would be too weird!

To RiP ChAiN.......I read your post about taking HJT results, so will you please let me know where, or to whom, I can send my info, and when.

Thanks to everyone for listening....it's nice to have someone to turn to when life gets confusing; I really appreciate your help!

Gratefully,

Hi Again!

To hazelnut: Thanks for the super-speedy PM reply! I'm glad I checked my mail before turning out the lights. (It's 3:00 AM here) I'll sleep well knowing that someone's checking things out for me! I'm sure you'll probably pick them out right away, but the 3 items that I'm 99% sure are problems are 013 and the two 016s....(they're the damaged ActiveX Controls that I can't delete).

Thank you SO MUCH for helping me. If you need any other info, just let me know.

With many thanks;

Hi Everyone!

Happy "Labor Day" to all USA Citizens....I hope everyone is enjoying a nice 3-day holiday weekend!

Also, I'm sending many prayers to anyone who's being affected by Hurricane Gustav; I hope everyone stays safe and that damage and property-loss is non-existent. God Bless EVERYONE!!

To RiP CHAiN: I'm SO SORRY for the delay in sending the results of the last 2 steps you recommended, but I was out of commission for a week after I had my spinal treatment, and then when I followed your instructions, the results came out differently than what your description said.....I think. blink.gif

I ran "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware", but after it finished scanning, I didn't see any box to check to 'show the results'; nor was there one to check to 'remove' anything. All of the items it found went straight into the 'Quarantine' section! Is this where you want me to delete the registrykeys that it found? I'm sorry if I sound stupid, but I have such a profound fear of messing around with the Registry, I just have to make sure
before I do it. I also went to Panda for their on-line scan, and when it reached 94% completed, it disappeared, then the results posted; It found 2 'low-level' (latent) adware....1 was a tracking cookie in my Favorites....the other was adware in an old .txt file. I guess that was a good result. Back to the ":Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware' results, I have 2 scans....one that I did right after your instructions that I didn't get to submit, and the second one that I ran on 9/01/08. Since they both found items to send to quarantine, I'm guessing you'd like to see both reports.

What I'm REALLY concerned about is the fact that NO scan has found the damaged ActiveX controls that are
located in my "Downloaded Program Files"......one of which is dated the EXACT DATE AND TIME that I got my first 'error message' regarding my games not working!!! Am I wrong in thinking that getting these items
removed from my system will let me play my games again?? They worked perfectly until 3/24/08....the date of one of them......or am I barking up the wrong tree??

I think I already submitted my HJT results .....I have trouble following threads backward.....I got the PM from hazelnut saying that I did OK with the pre-scans, clean-up, etc., soI sent them in. If you haven't seen them yet, let me know and I'll send in whatever you need. I NEED TO PLAY MY GAMES!!!!!!

Thank you in advance for your help....I know that there's something besides 13 (I think) Registry Keys and 2 Files from PopCap Loader keeping me from being able to use my Games; they've been 'Quarantined and
Deleted successfully" for weeks now, and I STILL can't play! (And that's even after removing all the old shockwave; macromedia flash; Java, etc., rebooting and re-downloading only the NEWEST versions....I tried to do ALL of the pre- HJT work perfectly.....and STILL NO GAMES!!)

Oh well, RiP ChAiN....once again I've babbled on and on. and I've probably bored everyone else and I've gotten myself whining because i can't get my games to play! Sorry everyone....I'll shut-up now.

Please forgive me.....and let me know if you need me to send you any info. Now that I'm up and moving around a bit I'll be able to respond in a more timely manner.

Bye for now!

Gratefully,

Yes, go ahead and delete anything currently in quarantine.

No scanners probably detect these items because they aren't really "malware", they are just legit damaged (probably corrupted) active X controls.

QUOTE
I'm sure you'll probably pick them out right away, but the 3 items that I'm 99% sure are problems are 013 and the two 016s....(they're the damaged ActiveX Controls that I can't delete).

The 016s we can try fixing and then you can re-download them and see if your games work again. The 013 entry I believe is legit on Windows Vista.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O16 - DPF: {9AA73F41-EC64-489E-9A73-9CD52E528BC4} - http://cdn2.zone.msn.com/binframework/v10/...gr.cab31267.cab

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis.

Then try downloading them again, and see if your games work properly.
