I am new to this forum. I hope it is the right place to ask about home wireless networks...I have a linksys 802.11b wireless router, a desktop that runs xp-home and a laptop, also running xp-home, all connected by this router. The problem is pretty simple. The signal is weak in several areas of my home (upstairs about 150 feet away form the router). I have read about a linksys wireless signal booster (wsb24) but the reviews are quite mixed. Any suggestion about a simple, relatively inexpensive way to increase the signal from the router to the laptop? Thanks!

I was looking at the signal booster you were looking at. It costs $160. I think it would be cheaper if you just got a new 802.11g router. They are faster and have greater range.

Also bear in mind that walls, furniture, electrical cables, water pipes, etc, are all going to reduce the distance that a wireless network can operate over.

The figures quoted by manufacturers are often for environments where no obstructions exist, ie outdoors or in a big empty space.

But rridgely was right going up to a "g" from a "b" should help a lot.
