Hi chamms,
Welcome to the forums. biggrin.gif
Thanks for answering YoKenny's questions. This information helps to determine how best to help you.

We all suffer from being "inexperienced" in different ways in many things.
We all "get by with a little help from our friends" !!!

Do not try running "any" 3RD party Defrags during Vista Start-up.
You will possibly also lose all your System Restore points that way.

When are you trying to run this "defrag" program and what is it called ?

How long does this "freeze" occur ? There are times when things are running and doing what they are supposed to do and it can appear that the "system is frozen". Some programs will not let other programs run when they are running also.

Hi Davey,

Well, it is the defragmenter that came with the computer, I assume that it is a windows Vista one. It freezes for good, it used to start up straight away, but no longer ! I try to run it once the whole computer has started up and is settled, and I have tried it when nothing else is running also, but still no cards.

To tell you the truth, the whole computer seems a bit slow and juttery at the moment, I have run a scan with AVG and installed the CCleaner software, but nothing is showing as infected, and I am starting to get a bit frustrated with it, unfortunatel, my office window isnt quite large enough to throw it out of !!!!

Any help greatly received, and wise words about experience,

Chamms

YoKenny
What are the applications that you have running?

In CCleaner go to Tools then Save to text file... then post its contents here.
Andavari
Although scanning with AVG didn't result into any found malware for peace of mind it wouldn't hurt for you to follow these directions. Doing so will make sure your computer really is clean as there's tons of malware antivirus products can't detect or deal with.

You are definitely my kind of CCleaner user. Just the kind of member we like.
Either you have a "small" window or an unusually "large" PC . tongue.gif

This MS fix may help . http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947562/en-us

What Vista edition and service pack are you using?

Also YoKenny's question needs answering.
Maybe you can show a snapshot of CCleaner Tools > Startup.
EDIT Also a list from Tools > Uninstall as explained by YoKenny

Also what Andavari suggested is something that I would definitely do.
There are a lot of "bad things" infecting PCs these days. Even Vista PCs.

Keep us informed,

Hi all,
Thanks for all your help so far, sorry for delay in replying, but work been hectic and stuff, you know !
I am slowly working my way through all of your suggestions.

Andavari-did that, all seems fine thanks.

Yokenny-when I go to save to text file it opens up a drop down box with no contents, am I missing something?

Davey- Downloaded that update, will reboot in a min and try it, thanks. To tell you the truth, my window is big enough I've just lost the security key for the locks on it, and I'm not quite frustrated enough to throw it out without opening it first.......but that time may come !!!!

Also, is Vista really any good, unfortunately when I threw my last computer out of the window I couldnt find a replacement that didnt come with it as standard, should I be looking at another operating system?

Thanks again all, your help is very much appreciated,
