Somehow the ASK Toolbar installed itself on my comp – unbeknownst to me.
I did uninstall it – but for some reason it has left a trace behind.
My Windows XP now hangs on Start up with a warning that it cannot find a file. Windows will not continue loading until this is acknowledged.
I immediately went to ‘Your Uninstaller’ and deleted this file from the start menu. I did the same in ‘msconfig’.
However – it comes right back into ‘Your uninstaller’ and will not be deleted.
I have tried ALL the normal things to delete this – but to no avail – including several scans for spyware etc etc .
It looks as if I will have to re-install Windows – but hope this will not be needed.

I cannot contact or find help from Ask Jeeves.
On the positive side CCleaner has located the offending file - which nothing else would do - but I still cannot delete it from the ‘system 32’ Folder.
I’m sure I will need something radical to get rid of this with the help of someone very experienced.
Any help would be so appreciated.

This is the warning[So called Missing file] that appears and has to be acknowledged before Windows will fully load : - rundll32 C:\Progra~1/UNINST~1.DLL.O-2

Two things,
Download and run autoruns and see if you can find it in the logon sectgion
or
try to reinstall the toolbar (http://www.download.com/Ask-Toolbar/3000-12512_4-10201062.html)
and then remove it

if these fail

try this from http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/board/...id=55694#M74566

Once you have installed a Tool-bar into Windows Internet Explorer, You need to Remove it using IE, Bring up IE Look at the Top Right Corner Click on Tools, then Click on Manage Add-Ons, Now Click on Enable/Disable Add-Ons.. Now Click on the tool-bar you want to disable or Delete.., at the Bottom of the list if is says *Enables the Click *Disable

Then Click OK..

after that you should be able to add/remove it normally

Thanks for posting this.

I did the re-install a few days ago - but no good.
I tried the IE - Manage Add-on as you suggested - but it does no appear in the list.

I did not quite understand 'Download and run autoruns and see if you can find it in the logon section'.

Could you explain, please?
