Hi all on my last system maintenance i scanned with Sbybot, Ad-Aware Se & Microsoft Antispyware then restarted and done a on-line eWido scan and to my amazement it found the below item which neither of the above apps did nor did they find any thing else. I thought well according to the above my system was cleaner but as i said eWido found this. I have got rid of it so its not a problem but i would like to know what it is and how i got it so i can avoid the source in the future, cheers.

Hello-

According to PCTools.com

Description: ABetterInternet is an IE Browser Helper Objects which in their own words "delivers advertising and various information and promotional messages to your computer screen while you view Internet web pages in the form of pop-up ads and various other ad formats." It also "redirects certain URLs including your browser default 404-error page, automatically update the Software and install added features including toolbars, conveniently without your input or interaction and install Third Party Software." On top of this aBetterInternet "may, without any further prior notice to you, remove, disable or render inoperative other adware programs resident on your computer, which, in turn, may disable or render inoperative, other software resident on your computer or have other adverse impacts on your computer." "BetterInternet also collects your Internet protocol (IP) address, your domain, your operating system, your browser version, type and language and your Internet Service Provider." Other variants are controlled by stop-popup-ads-now.com and abetterinternet.com.

Sounds like good thing you found it!

Hello again-

I noticed the info I provided is for "abetterinternet" not "betterinternet."
I'm not sure they're the same, although abetterinternet is a product of betterinternet llc.

There is a lengthy discussion here. It is provided by Aurora Networks which IS NOT the Aurora of nail.exe fame. Also Symantec has info on adware.betterinternet but not spyware.betterinternet. Seems like trying to get info involves a lot of running around in circles. Apparently, BetterInternet is trying to lure people to sites claiming they remove spyware, but don't.

A lot of sites that say they will remove or provide info on betterinternet are being blocked by my browser so I imagine it's the usual trick to catch people unawares and load them up with yet more malware.

Hope this helps you find the info you wanted...

Well yes if that info is correct as i said i removed it as soon as i found it i just want some info on it and how to avoid it in the future. It is a bit strange tho it got on my pc in the first place seeing i have not used IE for over a year now and i have spyware blaster etc. Also that Spybot, Ad-Aware Se did not find it.

Englishmen-

Sorry if spammed you. I'm not sure what that means in regards to posting on a forum. I was wondering if my info helped because it was rather hard to find, at least in terms I could understand.

Thanks
