Hi Andrew1263, Welcome To The Forum smile.gif

There is no signs of the Vundo infection in your log or any other infections but its best we run some scanners incase Vundofix has only removed parts of the infection, Regarding Spyware Doctor , I only used it once a long time ago and it was picking up killbits added by Spyware Blaster and showing the system was infected and also suggesting I need to pay to remove them so Ive never used it since.

It is well recommended on sites so Im sure it now does an excellent job but my experience with the program was abit different and I felt it was tricking novice users by detecting harmless reg entries and showing the user must pay to remove them when the system was already clean. If Spyware Doctor is finding Trojan.Startpage it would help to get information where this is being detected so we can check it out in more detail. When you said Winfixer will not get deleted do you mean there is pop ups advertising Winfixer or it is on the system ?

Do you still have SpyCatcher on the pc ? Its showing the file is missing in the log but Id like to confirm that before removing its entry , This is the file its showing as missing so can you check if the folder and file does exist:

C:\Program Files\SpyCatcher 2006\SCActiveBlock.dll

Next Download Ewido & Ccleaner
  • Download Ccleaner if you do not already have it installed from Here. Install then run Ccleaner and press the Run Cleaner button then when it shows the files have been removed close Ccleaner.

  • Please download, install, and update Ewido Anti-Malware. When installing, under Additional Options uncheck Install background guard and Install scan via context menu. Run Ewdio and click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display Update successful)
Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run. When ewido finds something, it will pop up a notification. Select Remove and check the boxes Perform action with all infections and Create encrypted backup then click on ok.When the scan finishes, click on Save Report and save it to your desktop or c:/drive and post it back in your next reply.

  • Finally run Panda Activescan from Here.

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
    - A new window will open...click the Check Now button
    - Enter your Country
    - Enter your State/Province
    - Enter your e-mail address and click send
    - Select either Home User or Company
    - Click the big Scan Now button
    - If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
    - It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan
(Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
    - When the download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
    - When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location so you can post it back.
Cheers

Andy

For WinFixer, I get the pop ups and McAfee finds it and deletes it. However, it keeps coming up. For trojan.startpage.gen, spydoctor does not show where it is. And i used to have SpyCatcher on my computer, but i had some problems with it so i deleted it. For Spydoctor, I am using an older version that is free so that i can fix the problems it finds, but i can't update the definitions. Do you have a suggestion for a program to replace SpyDoctor for me?

Hi Andrew ,

Part of Vundo was removed by Ewido, are you still getting the pop ups ? If you are can you set windows to show all files and check for the dll file.

To enable hidden files:

Click Start. Goto MyComputer then c:\drive

Select the Tools menu from the top bar and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab.

Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".

UnCheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended) " option.

Click Yes to confirm then OK

Set this back once you have checked for the file by opening the same page and pressing the Restore Defaults button.

check for these files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mllmj.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jmllm.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jmllm.bak
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jmllm.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jmllm.tmp

PartyPoker is an optional fix depending on if you use the service. In order to lower the risk of poker robots Partypoker uses software to search the hard drive of players but it is up to you to decide if you use it, If you did want to remove it anytime it will be listed on the Add/Remove screen and you can fix these entries in the log

O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker\PartyPoker.exe

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker\PartyPoker.exe

Fix the SpyCatcher entry if you removed it from the pc:

O2 - BHO: SpywareBlock Class - {0A87E45F-537A-40B4-B812-E2544C21A09F} - C:\Program Files\SpyCatcher 2006\SCActiveBlock.dll (file missing)

Regarding Spyware Doctor I wasnt saying you should remove it, Ive really not used it for along time and didnt keep it on the system long enough to judge it as that could update but couldnt remove anything smile.gif

Here's some of the main free programs which will help prevent malware infections.

Ad-Aware SE
Spybot-Search & Destroy
SpywareBlaster
SpywareGuard
MVPS Hosts file
Windows Defender is also worth considering.
andrew1263
Thanks for the help Andy! Well, I decided to uninstall SpyDoctor because it was an older version and didn't seem to be working well. I've updated to AVG. I would go to Windows Defender, but my Windows XP doesn't validate and I know why. biggrin.gif
AndyManchesta
It might be worth contacting Microsoft if you cannot validate, You can try use the Validate Link on this site but if you have problems use the Contact Us option at the bottom of the screen. There is a WGA Diagnostic test Here that will check some of your configeration settings which might be useful. You could probably get the progam installed using the FileHippo link but its worth fixing the validation first as Windows Defender might not be able to update without it.
andrew1263
yeah, well i don't really care if i can't validate it. So, i'll just live without it and just use automatic update biggrin.gif
