good times. smile.gif

Hi LOTW

Looking good as always smile.gif

Java has recently been updated to jre1.5.0_07 so you might want to upgrade yours, you can do that by going to start menu > control panel > Java, click the Update Tab then click Update Now or update by visiting Sun's Website Here. There is abit of a bug with Java where it sometimes leaves it's older versions installed after upgrading which can be about 120MB each so after upgrading and rebooting check the Add/Remove screen and remove any older versions of J2SE Runtime Environment listed.

Do you know if the x10nets.exe file is still on your system ? Its showing the file is missing but its best to make sure before removing its service,

You should be able to goto start then run and type (or copy and paste)

C:\PROGRA~1\ATIMUL~1\RemCtrl\

then check the folder that opens for the x10nets.exe file, if its not present then goto start and search and run a search for the file

Let us know how it goes smile.gif

Thanks

Andy

i couldnt find that x10 file- a bunch of other ones, but neither run nor search had it anywhere.

when i hit update on java it said i had the latest version. im gonna play around and see what happens. hope i dont screw anything up!

thanks andy!

Check what version of Java is installed using the Add/Remove screen (Start Menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs) On mine it shows:

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 7

If you have update 6 then there is a newer one available so you could probably get it using the link and download it from their website, I dont think it will make much difference if you keep the current version or upgrade as its just the older versions around 1.4.2 that were vulnerable to infections. If you do upgrade via their web site you will probably have to uninstall the version 6 after its installed as it will likely leave it on the system smile.gif

For the x10nets entry, fix the line in Hijack This which will keep the service installed but will stop it running and set it to disabled so it can then be enabled in the future if it's needed.

Because your logs are always so clean I have to work hard to find things for you to do tongue.gif

lol! thanks andy. had a hijacker years ago and cant stand the thought of getting another.

i manually downloaded the java 7, and then had to manually remove not one but TWO previous versions installed-never even realized it, and you saved me 150 mb or so by bringing it to my attention-THANKS!

i ran hijack this and tried to delete that x10 entry FOUR times, but it is always there when i run it again.

heres my revised log:

This is an optional fix for Hijack This

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_07\bin\jusched.exe

It checks for Java updates but doesnt really need to start with Windows as you can update it using the Control Panel > Java icon (When it works smile.gif ) or by visiting Sun's website

For the Service its strange HJT couldnt disable it but its not a problem to leave it in place, You could try to disable it this way

Goto Start Menu > Run > type

services.msc

Press OK and it will open the Services sceen

Check for X10 Device Network Service then double click it to open the Properties screen (or right click and choose Properties), Click Stop then change the Startup Type from Automatic to Manual and click Apply and OK.

You could set the startup type to disabled if its not on your system but Manual would mean if would still be able to run if its needed anytime.

Let us know if you have any problems

ok, this is weird. i reran hijackthis, and that java 04 one is GONE! it didnt come up, and i never deleted it! hmmm.

as for the x10 thing, i did as you said, and it was already set to stop and manual. hmmmmmm.

what exactly is the x10 thing andy?

and thanks for all your help brother!
AndyManchesta
Hey LOTW

Sorry for the delay , I got abit distracted with something on another forum,

If its set to stop and manual then its fine to ignore, I do not know much about the service but a quick search shows its owned by X10 and is a video streaming device, maybe something connected to this site

http://www.x10.com/home2.html

I could be way off though as that's just a guess, Im not sure what happened to your 04 entry but maybe the gremlins are playing games with your system, Its always nice to see a clean PC when all we have to think about is updating Java and checking for genuine files smile.gif
1984
thank you sir!
AndyManchesta

No Problem LOTW

Glad to be able to help smile.gif
