I am pretty clueless with computers. I have McAfee Virus Scan and when I ran it today I was advised to get rid of a "PUP".
How dangerous is this object?
It is called RemAdm-PSKill.

Potentially Unwanted Program(PUP) I had to look it up because I didn't know what mcafee meant either. (I hate it when they make up their own words)

Depending on where it detected it, it could be good or bad. I know it was detecting PSkill in ccleaner's installer and if thats what you mean then its perfectly fine to use ccleaner and ignore mcafee.

I knew what a PUP meant . Unfortunately I am still unclear as to whether they should be got rid off or not.

overath can you look in mcaffee and see where the files are being detected? Can you give as much info on the detections as possible. That file comes with a lot of programs. The other day I scanned my computer with a-squared and it flagged pskill on my system and it was installed with a compaq program.(this was of course a false positive.)

aaron I don't remember(the warning post seems to be deleted now). I don't think it was flagging already installed versions of ccleaner but just the installer. I could be wrong though, I don't use mcaffee.

well, you can try deleteing the installer off of your computer.
then see if mcafee still finds it, it shouldnt.

Were not even sure its ccleaner that its detecting. We need more information of whats being detected.(file paths being the most important.)

I got rid of the PUP. I think it was located in Documents and Settings, I don't know if that helps.

where did you have the installation at?
documents and settings could be on your desktop or in your my documents folder.

Since you deleted the file it doesn't really matter now.
I'm sure it wasn't anything too important, but there is a good chance that it wasn't really spyware either.

pskill probably means "process killer". A software can close other applications.

Maybe it is something completely harmless. Or maybe it is part of some malicious software that close Antivirus, Firewall, Task Manager, etc...

pskill "Not-A-Virus" as some antivirus and antispyware call it is also included in Ghost Installer setup files. You really have to look at your anti apps log files to know if it's blocking "Not-A-Virus" or a real threat.
