Hi,

These last few days something strange happens. Whenever I want to analyze the data before running the cleaner, and also when I want to run the cleaner, a warning appears, saying "You have to close Firefox/Mozilla to allow the cleaning of the Internet Cache" (something like that - my program is in Spanish). It appears even though Firefox IS closed. And obviously, the FF cache has not been cleaned for some days.

Is it possible that Firefox runs "somewhere in the background" without me knowing it (it would explain some more strange issues)? If so, what can I do to avoid this?
I must add that we have had severe problems with our computer for quite some time now. Our IT-man says the equipment is fine, and he has no more solutions.

Thank you, but I don't quite understand and am a bit lost. Does this mean "Yes, FF runs somewhere hidden" and I can close it with ctrl+alt+delete (rebooting), before I can run the cleaner?
If so, how come Firefox doesn't close properly when I "close" it?

And what do you mean with "Processes"? Where, how and when is that to be done? The same question applies to your third answer.

Sorry, I'm not very good at all this. More detailed instructions would be very helpful and appreciated.

Thank you, that's very kind. - Well, it's a VERY long story and I don't want to bore anyone with it now. But if our PC continues freezing all of a sudden, I'll gladly accept your offer.

Our IT-man has reinstalled the computer, added new ports, the harddisk is quite new, too. We worked with different mouses and changed the ADSL-box, cables, etc. etc. - it went even worse at times. It looks like a "conflict" somewhere in the configuration or programmes, so we have been trying out a few things ourselves. Result: no more freezing in my session, but it continued in my husband's, until yesterday.
Last night he uninstalled the Nod32 antivirus (installed by our IT-man) and re-installed our good old Panda instead. Since then even my husband's session seems to run well - so far... I hope it will continue that way!

Oh my! 10 Minutes after sending my reply, the computer froze when I left a card game for a couple of minutes.
It hasn't done this in about 2 weeks now - so Panda is not THE solution.

To submit this problem in further details, should I open a new thread in another forum, or can I go on right here? I don't think it has anything to do with CCleaner, apart from the Firefox issue.

You should probably run Check Disk on the hard drive(s), and any partitions it has here's how:

1. Click Start->Run and type in: chkdsk /f c:
   then of course press OK. When prompted to check the disk on restart select Y for Yes.
2. Restart Windows and Check Disk will run and fix any file errors.
   ...this needs to be done for each hard drive(s) and partitions so if you have a D:\ partition you'd also run: chkdsk /f d:

There's no gaurantee that will fix the issues as it can very easily be software/driver related, e.g.; your system may need the most recent Display/Video drivers.

Checking for an updated BIOS from the PC manufacturer website is something that may be necessary and can fix allot of issues/conflicts, as is checking for Firmware updates to your CD/DVD drive or any other attached device(s).

Firefox someties continues to run for, a usually short, time after closing it. By doing as suggested you will be able to see if it is running and end it if it is. Heres the user friendly translation of fire in the skys reply:

Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys on your keyboard then press Del. This will bring up the Windows Task Manager. At the top of the task manager there are tabs titled Applications, Processes, Performance, Networking and Users. Click the tab titled processes. This will show all the processes running on your computer. With Firefox closed see if this list contains an entry called 'Firefox.exe'. If it does click once on the Firefox entry to highlight it, then click the 'End Process' button at the bottom. This will bring up a warning window, don't worry about this, just tick yes to continue.
You will then be able to run CCleaner and clean Firefox's cache

Try the above then after running CCleaner check if Firefox continues to run in the background when it isn't actually open. You don't use the Firefox Preloader do you?

I've done so this morning, and I've been able to clear the Firefox cache! - But what a shock first, after checking the C drive and rebooting, the internet connection was gone as if it were not installed at all. And I couldn't close the programs any more, not even the task manager. So I had to use the button - as so often in the past. But after restarting the PC, Internet is back - obviously

I didn't know all that. And I don't usually use alt+ctrl+delete since it doesn't even work when the computer freezes.

The CCleaner/Firefox cache issue seems to be solved now.
