I`m wondering if its worth it, or even possible, to compress large ISO files. They soon start eating up HD storage space.

Don`t actually have a compression program of any kind at the moment.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You can compress ISO image files however it's best to use something like the RAR format (commercial), or 7-Zip format (open source). Note though if the files stored within the ISO are already a compressed format wrapped into the ISO you won't get much compression. The nice thing about WinRAR is you can do an estimate of the compression without wasting a significant amount of time doing the actual compression.

Apart from the fact that it took the best part of two hours, the 4571mb only went down to 4372mb, although the file had only been compressed to about 90% of the original.

Good program to keep, but I think I will bin the ISO files after checking the movie is OK.

Are you just watching them on your pc or do you want to still be able to burn them back?
The reason I ask is because I saw a program somewhere that compressed a movie down to like a gig or two instead of the 7-8 they usually take. Of course this lessens the quality but it would probably be good for say a laptop, but not for a big screen tv.

I burn them to watch on main TV, and I really look after my discs, so maybe it`s just unneccessary to keep a copy just in case.

I`m actually famous in my family for keeping anything in case it comes in handy. Does that that sound familiar to anyone ?
