Full Version: Log Analysis (trying To Kill Iexplore)

Hi all. Glad to be here first off =). Now im having some trouble with my computer. I have iexplore open twice, one instance takes up about 80,560k worth of memory and the other takes up about 8000k. I did not open them myself and i cant see any ie window. They are just here running in the background all the time. I have run a million anti spyware programs and the problem is still here. I have tried to kill the process but it just reopens. I have even tried renaming the iexplore thinking i could trick the virus, but it still seems to create a copy of iexplore. Here is a copy of my hijackthis log. Btw im having trouble booting into safemode as i have a usb keyboard =\.

Download Killbox from Here

Run Killbox by clicking the killbox.exe file on the desktop

In the Full Path of File to Delete window type (or copy and paste)


c:\progra~1\intern~1\iexplore.exe

Select the options Delete on reboot

Click the button: Single File and it should then flash green.

Then press the Delete File button (Red Circle with a White X).
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be removed on next reboot and asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you don't get that message, reboot manually.

Your computer should reboot now.

Run Kaspersky WebScanner
  • Please go HERE and click Kaspersky Online Scanner
  • Read and Accept the Agreement
  • You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • If you see a Windows dialog asking if you want to install this software, click the Install button.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files,
  • When the "Update progress" line changes to "Ready" and the "NEXT ->" button becomes available, please click on it.
  • Click on the Scan Settings button, and in the next window select the Extended database, and click Ok.
  • Under "Please select a target to scan:", click My Computer to start the scan.
  • When the scan is finished, click the "Save as Text" button, and save the file as kavscan.txt to your Desktop, close the Kaspersky On-line Scanner window.
  • Paste kaspersky log onto forum.

Post the kaspersky log and a new hijackthis log.

cant view the online scanner without internet explorer =(. Ive tried lowering all my security settings but i cant get the activeX prompt to pop up.

Download Superantispyware
  1. Load Superantispyware and click the check for updates button.
  2. Once the update is finished click the scan your computer button.
  3. Check Perform Complete Scan and then next.
  4. Superantispyware will now scan your computer and when its finished it will list all the infections it has found.
  5. Make sure that they all have a check next to them and press next.
  6. Click finish and you will be taken back to the main interface.
  7. Click Preferences and then click the statistics/logs tab. Click the dated log and press view log and a text file will appear.
  8. Copy and paste the log onto the forum.

Post the superantispyware log and a new hijackthis log.

btw what was that process that was open about 50 times? It was open again when i rebooted. IT took about 1 to 2 minutes to close

Ok this log is clean. You just need to clear your restore points.

To Flush the infected restore points:

Click Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > SystemRestore

Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Next goto Start Menu > Run > type

cleanmgr

Click OK, Disk Cleanup will open and start calculating the amount of space that can be freed, Once thats finished it will open the Disk Cleanup options screen, click the More Options tab then click Clean up on the system restore area and choose Yes at the confirmation window which will remove all the restore points except the one we just created.

Try rebooting again and let me know if it opens a whole bunch again.
Other than that you should be all fixed. Just make sure you only have one antivirus installed and one firewall installed. I suggest you take a read through this:

thank you very much. Ive been trying to get rid of those two instances of IE for a long time now. Thanks again. Will def. come back if i have any more problems.
