What kind of problems is this computer having? I dont see anything majorly wrong sticking out at me, and I see you have AVG AS and nod32 installed. Are these programs detecting anything?

Hi rridgley.........Nothing picked up by Nod32 AV and only one tracking cookie picked up by AVG AS. However, While assisting him yesterday with software updates, I noticed 2 new buttons in Opera (Default Browser), between the back arrow & the forward arrow. One was the logo for Google and when clicked brought me to Google Homepage search engine. The second was the letter "S" which led to a site (porno) I believe, discussing masturbation. I didn't pursue it further at the time. I will be back with him Thursday or Friday. Wanted your expert opinion first. What next? Would you like a screenshot of the buttons or? Thanx once again for the prompt reply.

Yeah, post a screenshot of his browser. To fix this try uninstalling opera and deleting the hidden file in documents and settings. Then Reinstall it.(just make sure you back up his bookmarks)

You might want to try a scan with superantispyware as well since it will sometimes find stuff the others wont.

Also a scan with combofix wouldn't hurt.(I will post directions for that later, I'm not currently on my own machine, so i dont have the directions with me)

It could be, but that wouldn't add a button to opera. You could take a look inside and if there are strange entries you could delete them or just replace it with the default ms one by using this:

Here is the directions for combofix(back on my laptop )

Download ComboScan to your Desktop

• Close all applications and windows.
• Double-click on comboscan.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
• The scan may take a minute. When the scan is complete, a text file will open - ComboScan.txt
• A folder Comboscan will also open which contains the Comboscan.txt and a Supplementary.txt.
• Copy and paste the contents of ComboScan.txt in your next reply.
• Extra Note: When running Comboscan, some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so. Also, it may happen that your Antivirus flags Comboscan as suspicious. Please allow the Comboscan to run and don't let your Antivirus delete it. (In this case, it may be better to temporary disable your Antivirus)

So that I don't forget, here is the full prescription.

1. take screenshot of opera so I can see what your talking about
2. Back up his bookmarks, then uninstall opera and delete all of its folder in program files and documents and settings
3. Scan with superantispyware(directions below if needed) and post the log.
4. Run combofix and post log for that as well.

Download Superantispyware

1. Load Superantispyware and click the check for updates button.
2. Once the update is finished click the scan your computer button.
3. Check Perform Complete Scan and then next.
4. Superantispyware will now scan your computer and when its finished it will list all the infections it has found.
5. Make sure that they all have a check next to them and press next.
6. Click finish and you will be taken back to the main interface.
7. Click Preferences and then click the statistics/logs tab. Click the dated log and press view log and a text file will appear.
8. Copy and paste the log onto the forum.
